ARTISOFT NOW SHIPPING CENTRAL STATION(TM) CONNECTIVITY PROCESSOR
With a Limited Time Offer For Free Print Server StationWare(TM)
Software
(TUCSON, Ariz. -- November 19, 1991) -- Artisoft, Inc., the
Tucson-based manufacturer of the LANtastic« Local Area Network,
announced today that it has begun shipping its new Central Station
connectivity processor, a cost-effective solution for network
peripheral connectivity. The modem-sized multiport hardware device
is designed to allow users to connect a variety of peripherals,
including notebook computers, printers and modems, to a LANtastic
or NetWare« Ethernet network. The basic version is priced at $595
and includes facilities to connect notebook or laptop computers as
well as printers to a Local Area Network.
Artisoft is offering, for a limited time, a free copy of the
upcoming Print Server StationWare software to users with proof of
purchase of the Central Station connectivity processor. This
software allows the Central Station connectivity processor to
function as a network print server. This offer is for a limited
time only, subject to change without notice, and subject to the
availability of the Print Server StationWare software.
"The Central Station connectivity processor represents a new
generation of multifunction peripheral-sharing devices," said Jack
Schoof, Artisoft President and CEO. "It provides a versatile,
cost-effective solution for connecting notebook computers,
printers, modems, and other devices to a network."
Artisoft's Central Station connectivity processor allows users
to quickly connect notebook computers and peripherals to a
LANtastic or NetWare Ethernet network. Laptops can be plugged in
for full access to the network, and then disconnected
without disrupting the network.
The Central Station connectivity processor comes with 128K
onboard upgradable RAM, a PC interface port, one parallel port, two
serial ports, and an optional SCSI port, and connects to Ethernet
networks running with either thin coax or 10BASE-T cabling. A 5'
parallel cable (included) connects the Central Station PC interface
port to the PC's parallel port to establish a slotless Ethernet
network connection. On its front panel, Central Station LEDs
monitor and display its port activity, twisted-pair link integrity
and power.
The functionality of the Central Station connectivity
processor can be enhanced with the addition of optional StationWare
application software. Sold separately on diskette, the StationWare
software downloads into the Central Station connectivity
processor's 32K of flash PEROM. The first StationWare application
to be released will allow the Central Station connectivity
processor to act as a network print server and attach printers to
its parallel or serial ports. The second StationWare software
application to be released will allow users to attach a modem to
the Central Station connectivity processor so that they can
remotely access the network.
Artisoft develops and manufactures a full line of hardware and
software for local area networks including the LANtastic Local Area
Network. The LANtastic network is the leading DOS-based
peer-to-peer network and has won numerous awards for its
cost-effective features, performance and ease of use. It allows up
to 300 users of IBM«-compatible computers to connect and share
information and peripheral devices such as
printers, hard drives and CD-ROMs.
